IBDP Preparatory Course

GDUFS International School, Guangzhou has been officially approved as a candidate school for the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) in November 2022, with the global code 063109.

Set by IBO, IBDP is widely recognized by the majority of top universities in the world. Students with IBDP results can apply directly to more than 5000 universities in over 120 countries. Statistics show that DP graduates have a higher chance of enrolling in the world's top 20 higher education institutions. Upon entering university, IBDP graduates with excellent DP results of some subjects can directly obtain university credits and are exempt from taking similar subjects. 

Curriculum

The IBDP programme consists of three core and six subject groups:

Three Core:

Theory of Knowledge (TOK)

Extended Essay (EE)

Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) (150 hours)

Six Subject Groups:

Group 1: Language A (Mother Tongue)

Group 2: Language B (Second Language)

Group 3: Social Sciences (History, Geography, Economics, Philosophy, Psychology, etc.)

Group 4: Natural Sciences (Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Systems, etc.)

Group 5: Mathematics (Mathematics: analysis and approaches, Mathematics: applications and interpretation)

Group 6: Arts and Electives (Visual Arts, Music, Theatre Arts, etc.)

IB has its own grading system where each subject in the first six subject groups is scored out of 7, with a total of 42 points. CAS requirements must be met. The total score of TOK and EE is 3. Only by passing the three core can a student be awarded an IB diploma. The highest possible score is 45, with scores of 40 or above considered high scores. Applicants to Ivy League universities need a score of 40 or above.

Scholarships

Generous subject-based and activity-based scholarships will be provided at the Middle School and High School level, with up to full tuition fee waivers.
